John Logan – Kitchenware Merchandise Director for one of our long standing exhibitors Albi Imports, was diagnosed at 42 with multiple cancers of the digestive system. He sadly passed away in 2008.
The Gift of Hope Charity
It was John’s wish that a charity be set up to treat cancers of the digestive system. The purpose of the John Logan Foundation is to raise funds for the treatment of the cancers.
Many digestive cancer patients need treatment that is not provided through the PBS system, which means:
* Patients can not get drugs through the public health system
* Patients cannot get a rebate from any of the private health funds
* If prescribed and the patient can get access to these drugs, they then cannot receive the treatment in a public hospital, so patients have to have the drugs administered through a private hospital. A course of such treatment can cost up to $20,000. If treatment is provided the results are often very successful.
The John Logan Foundation, a registered charity in Australia, has been set up to help provide funds towards the cost of these treatments for patients who otherwise would have no hope of receiving it. It is called the “Gift of Hope”. In the short time since the formation of the John Logan Foundation, they have already been overwhelmed by the generosity of the industry.
